Welcome To GLASS

The first GLASS group home opened its doors in February 1984, becoming the nation’s first ever long-term residential treatment program specifically for gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans-gender and questioning youth.

Gay and Lesbian Adolescent Social Services (GLASS) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) social service agency dedicated to providing a wide range of social and health care services to children and youth who are in foster care, on probation, or who are homeless. We provide these services in safe, loving, supportive, non-judgmental living environments, while providing full access to all of the educational and vocational opportunities to which these youth are entitled.

We strive to ensure these youth are prepared to become independent, responsible, productive and healthy adults. GLASS is proud to be recognized as the nation’s oldest and leading agency delivering social and health care services to self-identified Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans-gender, Questioning (LGBTQ) and HIV/AIDS-impacted youth.

A TRAGEDY THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED

February 12, 2008 15-year-old Lawrence King was murdered at school in Oxnard.  Friends say the reason was his sexual orientation and gender expression.  Lawrence lived in a foster home.  Sadly, it was NOT a Safe GLASS Foster Home.  Help us make sure Lawrence is not forgotten and that other kids are kept safe.

Violent hate crimes like Lawrence’s murder are not rare, anti-LGBTQ bullying and harassment are pervasive problems in our schools, neighborhoods and communities nationwide.  Effective responses are crucial to prevent escalation.

In the 2005 National School Climate Survey, nearly a fifth (17.6%) of LGBTQ students reported being physically assaulted at school in the past school year because of their sexual orientation and over a tenth (11.8%) because of their gender expression Nearly two-thirds of LGBTQ students (64.3%) said they feel unsafe in school because of their sexual orientation and two-fifths (40.7%) because of their gender expression.
